"張忠謀：台灣人才失衡"

台積電董事長張忠謀，日前在一場科學發展會議中表示，台灣人才供需嚴重失衡。尤其是年輕人的期望與現實差距過大、產業需求與人才不符、不同層次訓練與需求差異的問題更為嚴重。

他認為，多數年輕人並不了解產業需要哪些人才，以為畢業了就一定找得到收入還不錯的工作。許多學校裡教的，大部份都已與業界脫節，不符合產業的人才需求。另外學校對於學生培訓的深度，也有很大差距。

張忠謀語重心長地說，台灣的人才教育需要徹底改造。無論是教育部或是學術研究單位，一直到各級學校，都應該檢討並重新設計更符合社會與產業的人才教育制度。主事者應該更有勇氣改革，否則台灣將不再有競爭力。

(Education) Morris Chang: Taiwan Is Facing Talent Imbalance

Chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. Morris Chang recently pointed out during a scientific development conference that there is a wide gap between the supply and demand of talent in Taiwan. Problems that are particularly serious include young people often having expectations that collide with the reality, a gap between the supply and demand of talent across industries, different levels of training provided and differences in requirements.

According to Chang, most young people do not know what types of talent industries need and uphold the naive belief that they can find a reasonably well paying job once they graduate. They fail to realize that most of the skills and knowledge taught at school are no longer relevant to modern industries and are unable to fulfill industrial requirements. In addition, the training that students receive at school also varies greatly in the extent of which they are provided.

In an earnest manner, Chang says that Taiwans talent cultivation requires a complete makeover. Whether it is the Ministry of Education, academic research units, or primary, secondary or tertiary schools, they should all evaluate current measures and come up with a new education system that is more in line with modern society and industries. If those in control do not find the courage to initiate a reform, Taiwan may lose its competitiveness once and for all.
