(Culture) Halloween The Day of the Dead

As the end of October approaches, the Americas gear up for two very interesting holidays V Halloween in North America, and the Day of the Dead in Mexico and some parts of South America.

Halloween, also referred to as All Hallows Eve or All Saints Eve, occurs October 31st and is celebrated around the world, predominantly in North America and Europe. At this time, people of all ages wear costumes, and young children partake in trick-or-treating, which involves going place to place to collect Halloween treats such as candies and confectionary. Other activities involve costume parties, making jack-o-lanterns by carving pumpkins, lighting bonfires, bobbing for apples, divination, telling scary stories, watching horror films, and visiting haunted houses.

The Day of the Dead, also known as Dia De Muertos, is a Mexican holiday that involves praying for family and friends who have died. It begins October 31st and ends November 2nd. In most areas, November 1st is for honoring children and infants, and November 2nd is for honoring adults. This holiday involves family members preparing altars for the dead and traditional deads food V which involves many skull-themed desserts and treats. Graves are decorated with flowers and families will spend the night in graveyards celebrating and honoring those they have loved and lost.
