"台灣民眾小心致命的AH3流感病毒"

過去四個月，已有260起AH3流感通報案例，有25人死於併發症。目前的AH3流感或流感病毒較其他種類病毒致命，可能危及孩童和老年人的生命安全。臺大醫院的黃醫師預測，若無採取措施預防流感散播，今年流感相關的死亡率可能達3,500至4,000起。因此，建議民眾，尤其是孩童，在流感案例高峰期的12至2月之前施打流感疫苗。研究顯示，未打疫苗的幼童感染疾病風險較一般高出2.5倍，須住院的風險更達十倍之高。

(Health)Taiwan Public Warned of Deadly AH3 Flu Virus

In the past four months, there have been 260 reported cases of AH3 influenza, with 25 people dying of complications. The current AH3 influenza or flu virus is more deadly than the other strains and can be life-threatening to children and elderly people. Huang, a doctor at National Taiwan University Hospital, predicts a possible flu-related death rate of 3,500 to 4,000 this year if measures are not taken to prevent it from spreading. Hence, people, especially children, are advised to get influenza vaccinations well before the peak period of flu cases in December to February. Studies have shown the risk of getting the disease is 2.5 times higher in young children that are not vaccinated and the chance of them needing hospitalization becomes 10 times higher.

(Flu Vaccination) Teddy and Sarah are siblings. Sarah thinks she has just caught a common cold but Teddy is worried that it might be something worse. Lets listen to their conversation.

Teddy: How long have you been feeling unwell? Have you visited a doctor yet

Sarah: I dont need to go to the doctor for a common cold. The person I sat next to on the bus yesterday kept blowing her nose, I think I caught it from her.

Teddy: Maybe you should still go in to have it checked out. That might be the flu and not just a cold.

Sarah: You know, I could never tell the difference between the two.

Teddy: It is hard to tell one from the other. But people with the flu would also experience high fever, headache, weakness and body aches and pains.

Sarah: I guess its important to listen to your body. If you feel like somethings wrong, it might be better to go to the doctor right away.

Teddy: I can drop you off at the doctors office on my way to work. Why not get yourself vaccinated against that new flu virus

Sarah: Why not? I heard that it takes 2 weeks for the vaccinations to work so I should get it before the winter season starts.
