Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was able to defeat Republican Mitt Romney to secure a second term in office.

Even without Floridas vote, the president was able to capture 303 of the needed 270 electoral votes to win the presidency by winning key states like Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio. The popular vote is still being counted, but it also showed the majority of Americans voting for Obama with him leading 50.4% to Romneys 48.1%.

President Obama will face many challenges in his next four years in office as the Senate and the House of Representatives continue to be divided by political parties, which complicates the passing of bills as the Democrats and Republicans have different ideals. However, he promises to work with them on budget, tax and immigration issues. The president says that he is more determined, and more inspired than ever about the work there is to do, and the future that lies ahead.

Although the government is going through tough times with unemployment rates at a high of 7.9%, voters showed support for Obama for his decisive actions that resulted in the successful rescue of the auto industry in 2009 and the killing of Osama Bin Laden, who is believed to be responsible for the attack on the World Trade Center.
