"澳洲孩童移民收容所有如「地獄」"

澳洲的人權委員會最近發現在澳洲扣留尋求庇護者的主要收容中心：聖誕島移民收容所裡的孩童，生活在令人作嘔的環境之中。

坎培拉的境外收容政策指出所有搭船前來（或是羈押在海上）尋求庇護的人，終將轉移至新幾內亞或是諾魯的拘留營。拘留營之後，他們的文書會被處理，然後他們就會被安置在澳洲之外。

Triggs正在爭辯說依據國際人權法，孩童應該只能在作為最後手段的情況下被羈押，但是澳洲移民署長Scott Morrison沒有回應。

(International) Australian Child Detention Centers Hell

The Australian Human Rights Commission recently found that children held in immigration centers in Australias main detention for asylum seekers on Christmas Island live in disturbing conditions.

Gillian Triggs, Commission president, stated that 315 children have been held for between six and eight months, and most appeared visibly upset. Children told members of the inquiry this place is hell and asked that the inspectors help me get out of here. The children are not given a place to play and have nothing to do.

Pediatrician Karen Zwi and child psychiatrist Sarah Mares noted that children have resorted to biting themselves and banging their heads in frustration, bedwetting, and some have even stopped talking. Triggs added, The overwhelming sense is of the enormous anxiety, depression, mental illness, but particularly developmental retardation.

Canberras offshore detention policy states that any asylum seeker who arrives by boat (or is detained at sea) is eventually transferred to camps in New Guinea or Nauru. After the camps, their paperwork is processed and they are resettled outside Australia.

Triggs is currently arguing that under international human rights law children should only be detained as a last resort, but the Australian Minister Scott Morrison was not available for comment.
