"元太科技第三季營收5.11億新台幣"

位於新竹的元太科技發布本季淨利達5.11億新台幣，跟前季相比，上季淨損10.1億新台幣。

元太科技供應電子紙顯示器給亞馬遜旗下的Kindle電子書。隨著他們的主要客戶已經推出新一代產品並刺激了新興市場的銷量，本季跟上季相比，元太科技預計會有大幅季成長。根據財務總監陳彥松表示：「我們需要再雇用一千名員工來達到接下來幾個月的需求。」

即將到來的假日季節看來買氣會很不錯，美國皮尤研究中心的調查顯示電子書的市場滲透率增加了。根據元太科技的數據指出，他們從三個月前的7.1%躍升至21.8%。日本的索尼也打算在12月3日推出全世界最輕的電子紙裝置，而多元化的應用程式顯現岀市場需求的增加。中國、日本、印度、愛爾蘭、義大利和菲律賓的市場也已經顯示出上升的產品需求。

元太科技也審視了其他與手機有關的商業機會，即便電子紙裝置不會提供許多手機用戶偏好的互動體驗。

(Business) NT$511 Million Q3 Profit Reported By E Ink Holdings

Hsinchu-based E Ink Holdings posted NT$511 million in net profit this quarter, compared to NT$1.01 billion in net losses in the preceding quarter.

E Ink Holdings supplies e-paper displays for Amazon.com Incs Kindle e-reader. With major customers having released new generation products and boosted sales in emerging markets, the companys quarter-on-quarter growth this quarter is expected to be substantial. According to chief financial officer Eddie Chen, We need to hire 1,000 more workers to meet demand for the coming months.

The upcoming holiday season looks promising, and US Pew Research Center showed an increase in e-reader market penetrations. E-Ink jumped to 21.8%, up from 7.1% just three months earlier, according to company statistics. Japans Sony Corp is also set to launch the worlds lightest digital e-paper device yet on Dec. 3, and flexible applications highlight increased market demand. Markets in China, Japan, India, Ireland, Italy and the Philippines have also shown an increased demand for products.

E Ink is also looking into other business opportunities involving mobile phones, even though e-paper devices do not offer interactive experiences that many mobile users prefer.
