(Politics) A Lesson from the Taipei City Mayoral Bid
Recently, many KMT legislators have expressed their intention to run for the Taipei City mayoral election. This has caused the seven-in-one elections, set to take place next year, to kick off ahead of time, and heightened tension among political parties and politicians who are interested in running. By the look of things, the list of candidates running for mayor of Taipei City will be out before the end of the year.
Although there are many candidates lining up for next years elections, they usually need to make it through the primary election held within their party before they can represent their party in the elections. Therefore, if the candidates fail to get elected, they will, by and large, respect the outcome of the primary election unless they are determined enough to win by opting to run as a nonpartisan.
What is interesting, though, is that those who have expressed their wish to run are not necessarily interested in becoming the citys mayor to serve the people. When it comes to running, candidates are bound to receive media attention, which is a good thing for lesser known politicians. Moreover, they can reap political benefits when being dissuaded from running. Either way, they will have something to gain, so, why not?
