(International) France Pushes UN Ultimatum, Syria Agrees to Arms Plans

Syria has stated its compliance with a Russian proposal to hand over its chemical weapons as a means of averting military strikes.

President Bashar al-Assad surprised many around the world as he agreed to Russian President Putins plan, and his decision has been well received worldwide. Even President Barack Obama, who has been publicly opposed to both Putin and al-Assad on several issues, said it could, potentially be a significant breakthrough.

The Russian proposal was raised by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday after meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Walid al-Muallem. Muallem said the move would, knock the chair from under the legs of the American aggression, and Putin said he hopes it will avoid threatened US military action.

American authorities, however, are still seeking military action. Jay Carney, who spoke on MSNBC shortly after the proposal was accepted, stated that Obama will, still make the case for possible military action, and , Hell be building support for calling on Congress as well as the American people to understand and support the action that hes proposed.

Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius stated that France will join the US in military action, and will present a proposed resolution to the UN Security Council under chapter seven of the UN charter demanding Syria place weapons under international control or face the use of force.
