(Technology) Apple to Investigate iPhone 5 Related Death of Chinese Woman
According to Chinese media, a 23 year old woman named Ma Ailun, a resident of the northwestern province of Xinjiang, died while using an iPhone 5.
Cause of death was confirmed as being electrocution, and because she was using the device while it was plugged in and charging, authorities are questioning whether the phone was responsible.
China is famous for its ability to reproduce fake copies and knock-offs of original goods, so the investigation is looking into whether or not the phone was authentic, where it was purchased and if, indeed, it was the cause of Ma Ailuns death.
Apple has expressed its condolences to the womans family, and promised to investigate and cooperate with Chinese authorities over the matter.
Apple has been under media scrutiny in China recently, with other stories referring to the company as arrogant. Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that the companys lack of communication regarding its policies in China has led to this impression, and promised to provide easily understood notices on its website that outline repair and warranty policy, and to provide more comprehensive training to Apple personnel in China.
