The award-winning directors say the industry is being dominated by big-budget movies.

Due to big budget releases such as the Iron Man series, Avengers, and Avatar, movies are making more money than ever before, but celebrated directors Steven Spielberg and George Lucas say they think the industry is in trouble. The filmmakers, who are close friends, claim that because Hollywood studios are relying on blockbusters, it is getting harder and harder to release smaller budget films.

Spielberg has claimed that his critically acclaimed feature Lincoln was almost made for the HBO television network because he encountered so many difficulties trying to get it released in movie theaters. The pathway to get into theaters, he said, is getting smaller and smaller.

Lucas commented that he expects movies to develop in the same way that theater has, so fewer films would be released in movie theaters, they would remain on the screen for longer, and tickets would vary in price according to what the movie was. To support this view, Spielberg said: Youre gonna have to pay $25 for the next Iron Man; youre probably only going to have to pay $7 to see Lincoln.
