"把錢存在家裡並不明智"

雖然強盜不見得會到你家掠奪你的積蓄，但強盜不來，白蟻卻難防。一名不具名的年邁婦人在去年冬天收到孩子給的價值6.6萬元美金的現鈔。她沒有將錢存進當地銀行，反而將錢塞進一個木抽屜中，直到最近才想起來。當她準備要去取幾張鈔票時，才發現蟲子早已把鈔票啃得坑坑洞洞的。

這名婦人將儲金拿到附近銀行，將蟲子啃剩的鈔票拿去掃描鑑定真偽。銀行工作人員最後只能確認價值5.5萬美元的鈔票是真鈔，這也意味著這位婦人損失了大約總金額15%的錢財。

There is a growing feeling around the world that banks cant be trusted. Our confidence in these establishments was hit by the financial crisis, but we might not have any choice but to use them anyway. As one woman in China found out recently, the old option of simply storing your money away at home may not be such a good idea.

Even if robbers dont come to your house and take away your savings, it seems that termites might do the job themselves. An unnamed, elderly woman was given around US$66,000 in cash by her children last winter. Instead of depositing it at the local bank, she stuffed it in a wooden drawer and forgot about it until recently. When she went to get a few notes, she found that bugs had eaten holes through all the bills.

The woman took the stash to the nearest bank, where the remains of the cash were scanned to check if it was real. Bank workers have only been able to confirm that $55,000 were real, which means that the woman is set to lose about 15% of the sum.
