"颱風季即將來臨"

專家預測中國東海地區將會相當難熬。

中國國家防汛抗旱總指揮部辦公室最近宣布，今年至少會有七個颱風來襲。國家海洋環境預報中心颱風專家李本霞表示，第一個颱風將在六月中出現，比以往要早，而颱風通常在七到十月間發生。

李本霞表示，浙江和福建省的情形並不樂觀，可能會遭到超過六個颱風侵襲。這些地區都相當接近中國東海，李本霞也提到，今年南海一帶應會較為平靜。

颱風每年都重創中國，帶來重大損害，而根據中國民政部計算，在1991至2007年之間，颱風每年平均奪走456條人命並造成超過330億人民幣的經濟損失。不過，由於中國颱風監測站的技術提升，情況已有改善。中國氣象局目前已能預測100公里內颱風的行進路徑。

(Local) Typhoon Season Is Nearly Here

Experts predict a tough time for regions near the East China Sea.

Chinas Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters announced recently that at least seven typhoons would hit the country this year. National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center of the State Oceanic Administration typhoon expert Li Benxia stated that the first one would arrive in mid-June, which is earlier than usual, given that typhoon season generally runs from July through October.

Li stated that the situation will not be good in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, which could get more than six typhoons. These areas are both close to the East China Sea, and Li noted that regions closer to the South China Sea should have a milder year.

Typhoons wreak catastrophic damage on China every year, and the Ministry of Civil Affairs calculated that between 1991 and 2007, typhoons were responsible for the deaths of an average of 456 people and economic losses of over 33 billion yuan a year. The situation is improving, though, due to increased technology at Chinas typhoon monitoring stations. The China Meteorological Administration is now able to predict the path of storms to within 100km.
