(Education) Ambulances are a Sign of Exam Pressure
In Beijing, ambulances were stationed outside every college entrance exam center.
On June 7 and 8, students across China gathered in examination halls to take the national college entrance examination. Interest in the exam has now spread around the world and stories of Chinese youngsters studying around the clock attract both admiration and condemnation. What is not in any doubt, however, is the pressure on students has never been greater. As if to prove that point, the Beijing Emergency Medical Center announced last week that ambulances would be stationed at every examination center in the city.
The Beijing health bureau announced that ambulances with special radio links to the center will be present at each of the 105 test locations around Beijing. The service has been a feature in the city since 2003, underlining the fact that many students study to the point that they jeopardize their health.
This isnt the only ambulance-related special measure thats being taken for the exam. Authorities are so keen to ensure that students are not disturbed during test-taking hours, that the Beijing Emergency Medical Center has even advised ambulance drivers to turn off their sirens on these days.
