Soccer is one of the worlds most popular sports, and the English Premier League is the worlds most marketable competition. The top English clubs have been getting very rich in recent years due to the inflow of cash from lucrative TV deals. Theres no sign that this trend is going to change. In fact, when the new soccer season kicks off in August, English Premier League sides will be getting more money than ever before thanks to a massive new TV deal.

Financial experts at Deloitte have calculated that Premier League clubs made 2.36 billion pounds ($3.68 billion) in revenue in the 2011-12 season. The company believes that this figure increased to 2.5 billion pounds in 2012-13, and it predicts that in 2013-14, revenue will rise another 600 million pounds.

The people cashing in most from this extra money are players, and the soccer stars at top English clubs are among the best paid in the world. Deloitte revealed that in 2011-12, Premier League clubs paid around 70% of their revenues to players. The biggest spenders, Manchester City, paid an eye-watering 202 million pounds to players that year.
