(Education) How to Improve Your English Vocabulary (1)
It is difficult to learn a new language. Its normal to feel overwhelmed by the number of words one needs to memorize before being able to understand a conversation. There is no shortcut to doing this but there are some methods that a person can use to make it easier.
What is the first thing people usually do when they need to deal with a lot of information? They try to organize it in a way that they can understand it. Its the same way with vocabulary. Some people make use of vocabulary trees which are useful in grouping related words together. For example, the tree can start with the word work and then one branch can include words related to people at work (employer, employee, coworker) and another can list down different types of jobs (supervisor, salesperson, janitor).
Watching English movie DVDs is also a great way to improve ones vocabulary. However, watching a movie is different from trying to learn from one. Experts recommend that the person should first choose a scene from the movie to concentrate on. After that, they need to write down the words they dont understand on a piece of paper. But before checking the dictionary for the definitions, they should try to guess what the words mean by thinking of what was happening in the scene.
