"女子「修復」古畫反成破壞"

The picture of Jesus Christ has been on the wall of a Zaragoza church for 120 years.

On the walls of the Sanctuary of Mercy Church in Zaragoza, Spain, theres a famous painting of Jesus Christ. The piece, called Ecce Homo V Latin for Behold the Man V is around 120 years old and is loved by local churchgoers.

Sadly, the painting has suffered due to moisture in recent years, and the paint was starting to peel away. Unhappy with this, a local woman in her 80s decided to restore it herself. Sadly, the womans efforts have been less than successful, and the figure in the painting now looks like a monkey in a purple robe. One journalist reported that the delicately painted original by Elias Garcia Martinez has been covered by random splashes of paint. Restorers have been called in to see if they can save the picture.

Juan Maria Ojeda, the Zaragoza councilor in charge of cultural affairs, said: I think she the elderly woman had good intentions. Next week she will meet with a repairer and explain what kind of materials she used. If we can't fix it, we will probably cover the wall with a photo of the painting.
