Beating out 115 contestants, Miss China was crowned Miss World 2012 at a ceremony held in Inner Mongolia.

Yu Wenxia, a 23-year-old music teacher who aspires to work with the poor, donned a sparkling blue gown and waved to the cheering audience shortly after she was awarded the honor. When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me, and I hope in the future I can help more children to feel lucky, said Yu. In second place was Sophie Elizabeth Moulds of Wales, followed by Jessica Michelle Kahawaty of Australia.

However, Yus win has stirred up controversy, with angry commenters accusing the judges of favoring the contestants and slamming Yu as a fake winner. This is the second time in the pageants history that Miss China has won the title of Miss World. What is noteworthy is that China hosted the awards both times, which led critics to doubt whether the contests judges were swayed by the countrys hosting duties.
