The Spanish rider held his lead in one of the seasons biggest races.

Spanish cyclist Joaquim Rodriguez of the Katusha team won his second stage in this years Giro dItalia last Wednesday. After a tough day in the Dolomites section of the Alps, the Spaniard outsprinted Ivan Basso of Liquigas to ensure he held on to his maglia rose V the pink jersey worn by the leader of the race.

Rodriguez dedicated his victory to Xavi Tondo, another rider from Spains Catalan region, who died exactly one year earlier after a bizarre accident. Today it was a special day and I dedicate this victory to my friend Xavi Tondo who died a year ago, Rodriguez said after the race.

Rodriguez has a slender lead at the top of the standings; he is just 30 seconds ahead of Canadian rival Ryder Hesjedal of the Garmin-Barracuda team. Commenting on the threat of Hesjedal and Bassos Liquigas team, Rodriguez said: Liquigas worked very hard today and if theyre going to keep this pace then it will be hard for everyone. But Hesjedal is the favorite now for the final win. Hes the best in the ITT and we will have to attack him.
