"Schriver警告美國不要干涉臺灣2016年的大選"

前美國政府官員Randall Schriver強烈建議美國政府不要重蹈2012年大選的覆轍（當時一名高階官員對臺灣的選舉做出評論），並建議美國政府2016年改為選擇一個較為中立的立場。

當時，一名高階官員表示他們「非常質疑」民進黨候選人蔡英文是否「有意願且有能力」維持兩岸關係的穩定，而許多人認為這影響了選舉結果。

Schriver表示：「（美國）政府可不能重蹈上次選舉的覆轍，那時看起來就像是他們支持其中一黨並操弄選舉。」還有「臺灣選舉的過程中，我們的所說所為都應當真正的中立。」

Schriver現在是2049計畫研究所的執行長，他在戰略與國際研究中心和布魯金斯學會主辦的臺灣會議中做出那些評論。會議由駐美臺北經濟文化代表處代表沈呂巡揭幕。

此外Schriver表示他認為2016年的臺灣選舉的競爭將十分激烈，未來也很有可能「我們會跟民進黨政府打交道」。

Schriver也對他所說美國「從根本上就有瑕疵的」假定做出評論，並評論了美政府明顯認為自己知道中臺困境的解決方案。

(Politics) Schriver Warns Against US Interference in Taiwans 2016 polls

Former US government official Randall Schriver has urged the US government not to repeat the 2012 election incident in which a senior staff member commented on Taiwanese elections and opt for a more neutral position in 2016 instead.

At that time, a senior staff member stated they had distinct doubts that Democratic Progressive party (DPP) candidate Tsai Ing-wen was willing and able to maintain stability in regards to cross-strait relations, which many believe influenced the election results.

Schriver stated, it is important that the US administration not repeat their mistake of the last election when it looked as though they were putting their thumb on the scale in favor of one party, and that, it would behoove us to be truly neutral in words and deeds and actions in Taiwans electoral process.

Schriver, currently the head of the Project 2049 Institute, made the remarks at a conference on Taiwan organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Brookings Institution opened by Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office Representative Shen Lyu-shun.

In addition, Schriver stated that he believes the 2016 election in Taiwan will be competitive and there is a chance that, we might very well be dealing with a Democratic Progressive Party government in the future.

Schriver also commented on what he calls fundamentally flawed US assumptions and its apparent belief that it knows how to solve the Taiwan-China dilemma.
