Kevin Durant recently made an emotional and powerful speech after beating Miami Heat forward LeBron James to win his first NBA Most Valuable Player trophy. On top of thanking each of his teammates, the coaches, support staff and team executives, Durant also paid a tribute to the woman who had always been his backbone V his mother. Speaking from the heart, Durant talked about the hardships his mother faced as a single parent of two boys and how she made him the man he is today.

You made us believe, Durant said to his mother, who was at the ceremony in Edmond, Oklahoma. Kept us off the street. Put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didnt eat, you made sure we ate. You sacrificed for us. Youre the real MVP.

The 25-minute-long speech captivated the room and moved everyone to tears. It also allowed the 25-year-old player to reveal a humility and vulnerability rarely displayed by a professional athlete.
