Traditional ski resort areas can come into their own in the springtime.

Throughout the winter months, tourists pack the ski resorts of the French Alps. The region offers some of the best skiing conditions in the world, but that doesnt mean its not worth visiting when the snows finally melt in the spring. The slopes people spent all winter skiing down are perfect for hiking, and the charming little mountain towns look gorgeous in the sunshine.

The Vanoise National Park is a wonderful place to visit whatever the weather. The forested foothills are alive with animals, and you might even see ibex and marmots if you venture out away from the built-up areas. If you do prefer to stay within the more comfortable confines of civilization, you should find that the medieval town of Annecy is one of the nicest you ever visit.

Most of the food available in the Alps has a rustic appeal, and if youre a lover of cheese, then youre definitely going to have a good time. Cheese on toast, potatoes covered with cheese, bacon and onions, or simple cheese and crackers V its all available here, and it can all be washed down with beautiful French wine.
