"地球上最冷的小鎮"

在俄羅斯遙遠的東北角落有個小鎮奧伊米亞康坐落於此，在那裏，冬季時節低溫攝氏零下60幾度還被視為「正常」。這個小鎮獲得了「世上最冷人類定居點」的稱呼，一度達到紀錄新低的攝氏零下71.2度，在北半球有記錄以來的最低溫。

儘管氣溫極冷，人們仍住在奧伊米亞康。這個小鎮是約莫住了500人，設有數間學校（學校只在氣溫降到攝氏零下52度的時候才會關閉）、一間郵局和一間銀行。小鎮甚至還有一條飛機跑道（雖然只在夏日運作）。

儘管如此，此般嚴峻的天氣的確給了當地人一些挑戰。如果他們的車輛放置在外，要啟動車子就得架好營火才能讓車子有足夠的暖度發動。同樣地，如果放在外面超過五分鐘的話，智慧型手機將變成一塊塊的冰塊。至於食物，他們很少吃蔬果，因為地面已經長期結凍，無法種植作物。他們則改食用肉湯──通常是馴鹿肉或是馬肉。

Far away in the northeast corner of Russia lies Oymyakon, a small town where low temperatures in the -60s are considered normal in the winter months. The town, which has earned itself the name of the worlds coldest inhabited place on earth, once registered a record low temperature of -71.2 degrees Celsius, making it the lowest temperature ever recorded in the northern hemisphere.

Despite the freezing temperatures, people continue to live in Oymyakon. Being home to around 500 people, the town is equipped with schools, which only close when the temperature drops below -52 degrees Celsius, a post office and a bank. It even has an airport runway (though it is only open in the summer).

That said, the harsh climate do pose challenges for the locals. If their vehicle is left outside, a bonfire would need to be set up to warm it enough to start. Similarly, smartphones would become pieces of ice if they are left outside for more than five minutes. As for food, fruits and vegetables are rarely eaten for the ground is permanently frozen and crops cannot be grown. Soup with meat V usually reindeer or horse, is consumed instead.
