(Travel) Rubber Duck Returns to Keelung
After spending two days in recovery, the giant inflatable duck is now back.
The 18-meter-tall rubber duck, which burst suddenly on New Years Eve as a result of rising pressure caused by rapid temperature changes, recently returned to Keelung harbor. According to the organizer, the art piece has been cleaned and repaired, with the 8-meter rupture being fixed by its manufacturer, who worked round the clock to ensure that the exhibition could continue.
In a bid to prevent the rubber duck from bursting again due to temperature fluctuations, the manufacturer has also opened two new holes in the back of the sculpture, and installed an extra exhaust fan inside to ease internal pressure.
Since the yellow ducks return, hundreds of thousands of visitors have made their way to the port city to see the exhibition. Although the influx of visitors has caused the waterfront, as well as main traffic routes and parking lots to become heavily congested, local shops and vendors are happy to be able to cash in on duck-crazed crowds.
