"糖尿病削弱中國人健康、耗盡醫療預算"

根據國際糖尿病聯盟指出，中國有1.14億名糖尿病病患，而此疾病正為該國加上「不堪負荷的負擔」。

估算指出如果所有罹患此病的人都獲得慣例的、國家資助的照護，治療的成本將從去年的170億美元升至220億美元。

將近有五億名中國人有得到糖尿病的風險，治療的成本預期將會失控。香港大學公共衛生學的教授林大慶表示：「這很恐怖。」並說：「這只意味著糖尿病肆虐的開端。最糟的情況還沒到來。」

中國的研究顯示11.6%的成人有糖尿病，接受治療三分之二的病人沒有恰當地控制血糖。另外，「每一個診斷出糖尿病的人，就另外至少有兩個人不知道他們得了糖尿病。」人們的糖尿病沒經過診斷、或是照護方法不當，會迅速發展出併發症，帶來額外的照護成本。

中國有許多人經診斷出第二型糖尿病。這發生在身體停止對調節血糖的胰島素做出適當反應的時候。中國的肥胖率增長是主因，年紀在10到30歲之間的中國人現在據紀錄比20年前重了六到七公斤。糟糕的飲食習慣，像是含糖飲料、少纖維和精緻米，以及運動量過少都是重要因素。

According to the International Diabetes Federation, China has 114 million diabetics, and the disease is putting an, overwhelming burden, on the country.

Estimates indicate that if all those who suffer from the condition get routine, state-funded care, the cost of treatments will be $22 billion, up from last years $17 billion.

The costs are expected to become out of control, with almost 500 million Chinese at risk of developing the disease. T.H. Lam, a professor of public health at the University of Hong Kong, stated, Its very scary, and, This only represents the beginning of the diabetic epidemic. The worst is yet to come.

Studies in China showed 11.6 percent of adults have the disease, and that two-thirds of the patients treated dont have proper blood-sugar control. Additionally, for every person diagnosed with the condition, at least two more will be unaware they have it. People with undiagnosed diabetes, or improper care, develop health complications rapidly, bringing additional care costs.

Most people in China are diagnosed with the type 2 form of diabetes. This occurs when the body stops responding properly to insulin, which regulates blood sugar. Growing rates of obesity in China are a major cause, with Chinese people aged 10-30 now being recorded as 6-7 kg heavier than they were 20 years ago. Poor diet, including sugary drinks, less fiber, and refined rice, as well as physical inactivity are also prominent factors.
