(International) UN To Issue Statement Over N. Korean Ship In Panama

A North Korean Ship found to have military equipment on board has been detained in Panama for a month, and the UN is now ready to complete its determination and issue a statement.

According to sources, the ship set sail from Cuba (with Cuba admitting they owned the equipment), with the Cubans stating the items on board were meant to be repaired and returned, not sold. North Korea currently has UN sanctions prohibiting the import and export of most weapons due to its desire to pursue nuclear weapons, and the ship may be in clear violation.

Panamas inspectors, along with the Panamanian government, have said that the matter should be settled by the UN, and the ship, detained a month ago, has been held since then for UN inspectors, with a conclusion to be reached by next Friday.

When intercepted on July 15th, crew members resisted authorities V going so far as to cut cables to cranes V and the captain attempted to commit suicide.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, equipment included two anti-aircraft missile systems, nine missiles in parts and spares, two MiG-21 jets and 15 motors for this type of airplane, and the captain and North Korean crew have been charged with illegal trafficking and possession of weapons and international arms trafficking.
