Alex Rodriguez is among the 13 players facing discipline from Major League Baseball over their ties with an anti-aging clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs.

According to MLB, Rodriguezs drug penalty was for his use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and human growth hormone over the course of multiple years. While the others have accepted their 50-game bans, Rodriguez has remained defiant and said he would appeal his suspension, which covers 211 games.

Since the scandal, Rodriguez has been facing booing crowds each time he walked to the plate. Nonetheless, the three-time MVP is determined to fight for his career. Im human, Rodriguez recently told reporters before a game. Im fighting for my life. I have to defend myself. If I dont defend myself, nobody else will.

Rodriguez, currently baseballs highest paid player and one of the sports greatest hitters, has been embroiled in a series of controversies and spats this past year. On top of being a target of MLBs drug investigation, he has also been sidelined during the postseason, undergone hip surgery and fought with the Yankees over his future.
