"肥皂比乾洗手好嗎？"

有些人喜歡乾洗手的方便性，有些人則仰賴傳統方式，用肥皂和水洗手。在抗菌作戰中，真的有一個比較好的洗手方法嗎？近來的調查顯示兩者幾乎一樣有效，只要方式正確的話。選擇酒精成分至少有60%的乾洗手，且要記得使用足夠的量，讓手心和手背沾濕十五秒。並未發現抗菌肥皂比一般肥皂來得好，但洗手得洗整整二十秒，或是連唱兩次「生日快樂歌」要花的時間。

艾倫：但我聽說過乾洗手只能殺細菌，但沒法殺病毒，所以如果附近有水槽，最好還是乖乖洗手。

瑞秋：這倒是真的。我猜這就是為何大家老是說「媽媽永遠是對的」。

(Health) Are Soaps Better than Hand Sanitizers?

Some people like the convenience of hand sanitizers; others rely on the age-old practice of washing the hands with soap and water.In the fight against germs, is one method really more effective than the other? Recent research showed that both are pretty much equally effective, if used properly. Choose hand sanitizers that contain at least 60% alcohol and remember to use enough to keep the front and back of the hands damp for 15 seconds. Antibacterial soaps were not found to be better than regular soaps but people need to wash their hands for a full 20 seconds, or the time it takes for them to sing the Happy Birthday song twice.

Dialogue Example:

(Hand Sanitizers) Ellen is Rachels mother. Rachel was just about to eat the strawberries her mom bought her when Ellen reminds her to go wash her hands first. Lets listen to their conversation.

Rachel: Thank you for remembering that I love strawberries, Mom. These look so plump and juicy. I think Ill take some out to eat now.

Ellen: Please remember to wash your hands before eating anything. You just came from outside, who knows how many germs are on your hands.

Rachel: Youre right. Can you pass me the hand sanitizer in my bag? Its in the side pocket.

Ellen: I dont approve of you using this type of products. Its safer to clean your hands with soap and water.

Rachel: Mom, I appreciate your concern but you have nothing to worry about. Hand sanitizers have been proven to be as effective as soap, as long as it has 60 percent alcohol and you use the right amount.

Ellen: But I have heard that it only kills bacteria and not viruses so it might be better to stick to washing your hands, if there is a sink nearby.

Rachel: That is true. I guess thats why people always say Mothers are always right.

Ellen: I wish you were as accepting of my advice about your love life. Shouldnt you be looking for a nice boy to marry? You are not getting any younger.
