"義大利選舉陷入僵局"

左翼和右翼團體的得票數不分軒輊。

Left- and right-wing groups collect almost the same number of votes.

The Italian elections ended in a near-tie, leading many observers to conclude that another vote will have to be held in the coming months. With the domestic votes all counted, the center-left group led by Pier Luigi Bersani has a slight majority in the lower house but does not have a majority in the upper house. Rules in Italy state that a party needs control of both houses in order to govern.

Voting was extremely close with Bersanis party beating Silvio Berlusconis right-wing People of Freedom party by less than 1%. Both sides lost significant numbers of votes to a protest body led by a local comedian. Beppe Grillo ended up winning around a quarter of the votes, as Italians demonstrated how frustrated they are with the countrys political situation.

Leading the Five Star Movement, Grillo toured Italy in the run-up to the vote speaking to crowds and giving interviews in which he repeatedly attacked the countrys political class. They are all losers, he said. Theyve been there for 25 to 30 years and theyve led this country to catastrophe.
