美國新國務卿想要重啟以色列和巴勒斯坦的對談。

在成為美國國務卿的聽證會時，參議員約翰．克里表示要在中東找到方法實現和平是有可能的。提及以色列和巴勒斯坦之間不斷的衝突，克里聲稱「此兩國方案的門戶如果關上，那麼對相關的人事物來說將會是場大災難。」

克里自1985年起就服務於參議院，而且是2004年民主黨的總統提名候選人。身為越戰老兵和參議院外交委員會主席，大多數人認為他相當能夠勝任新職位。即將卸任的國務卿希拉蕊．柯林頓和共和黨參議員約翰．麥肯在聽證會時都對克里讚譽有加。

針對中東的情勢，克里表示：「或許這是我們能夠重新繼續努力讓雙方進行討論的時候，讓彼此踏上過去幾年來所未曾踏上的軌道。」他補充表示美國「必須盡其所能避免伊朗取得核武。」

(International) John Kerry Talks of Middle East Peace Deal

The new US secretary of state wants to reopen talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

During his confirmation hearing to become US secretary of state, Senator John Kerry said that it is possible to find a way to achieve peace in the Middle East. Referring to the ongoing clashes between Israel and the Palestinians, Kerry claimed that the window or door on a two-state solution could shut, and that would be disastrous for all concerned.

Kerry has served in the Senate since 1985 and was the Democratic Party presidential nominee in 2004. A Vietnam veteran and chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee, he is regarded by most as being highly qualified for his new position. Outgoing secretary of state Hilary Clinton and Republican Senator John McCain both praised Kerry during the hearing.

On the situation in the Middle East, Kerry said: Perhaps this can be a moment where we can renew some kind of effort to get the parties into a discussion to have a different track than we have been on over the last couple of years. He added that the US should do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
