Theres so much to see, do, and learn in this winter wonderland.

Lapland is a gorgeous winter vacation spot and is perfect for families. Its known for being the home of Santa Claus, but theres still a lot to do there, even though Christmas is long behind us. The region covers parts of both Finland and Sweden, and in both countries, theres plenty for visitors to see and do.

Despite the cold temperatures, Laplanders are not accustomed to staying indoors during the winter. People like to get outside and live very active lifestyles, and that means skiing and skating across the towns and countryside. If you want to get a taste of this kind of lifestyle, head to Lulea, where youll easily be able to rent cross-country skis or ice skates to skate along the frozen rivers.

Lapland is home to the Sami people, and the best place to see their culture is Inari, where the Sami parliament is located. In the surrounding villages and wilderness, the locals still herd reindeers in the traditional way and maintain their peoples heritage. Trips to herding villages can easily be arranged from Inari, and this is the best way to experience what life here is really like.
