Unified Support of Taiwan from All Six Southeastern States

中央社/ 2023.06.24 09:31

(中央社訊息服務20230624 09:31:44)June 23, 2023 – Atlanta, GA – On June 22, as the North Carolina Senate passed the Taiwan-friendly statement, it marked the second consecutive year in which all six Southeastern states’ (AL, GA, KY, NC, SC, TN) legislatures have passed resolutions or statements in support of Taiwan since the establishment of the Southeastern State Legislative Taiwan Caucus (SESTC) in 2021.

These Taiwan-friendly resolutions or statements have highlighted the endorsement of various initiatives supporting Taiwan's interests and promoting mutual cooperation. Notably, these measures emphasize the significance of strengthening ties with Taiwan's high-tech industry, exemplified by the leading semiconductor manufacturer TSMC and EV industry. Moreover, they encourage Mandarin language cooperation, support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations, and advocate for establishing a state trade office in Taiwan. The continued unified commitment of the SESTC to these areas of collaboration reflects its recognition of Taiwan as a valuable partner in economic, cultural, and diplomatic endeavors.

In addition, legislators of these states have actively engaged in conversations during their meetings with Director-General Elliot Wang of TECO in Atlanta. DG Wang provided a brief overview of Taiwan-U.S. relations and exchanged valuable insights on various issues, including Taiwan’s electric vehicle (EV) industry, Mandarin-English cooperation, healthcare, and tourism.

The growing bond between the two sides has been further emphasized by the visits of Taiwan EV delegation to North Carolina and South Carolina in May 2023 and Taiwan Agricultural Goodwill Mission to Kentucky last September. It is excited that some of the EV delegates have decided to establish offices in Charlotte. These strategic investments signify the immense potential for economic collaboration, innovation, and job creation. In response, legislators have proactively encouraged their government to establish trade offices in Taiwan, facilitating increased trade and fostering closer ties between the two economies.
