It was by chance that we saw the inside decoration of European BMW car is made by bamboo veneer that supplied by Chinese company instead of by mahogany as before, the bamboo decoration surprised us and let us realize that bamboo can be applied to these kind of products.
so we began our work…
We want to make the most Chinese design with the most Chinese material, hope to design real bamboo furniture that can replace wooden furniture. At the same time, we want it to be different from those bamboo furniture we now see on the market; it is not art, but it is fashionable, suitable, and can be accepted by the public, to be low-carbon commercial product that immediately leads to be marketization! We hope that more people can really feel this new charm of 100% bamboo furniture and know that bamboo can really replace wooden to make excellent, market-oriented furniture.
It is said that the Chinese producers alone, use a forest area greater than ten times the land area of Hong Kong. China has a total wood demand annually of 410 million squares cubic. We want to try to change the above situation; we believe that one of the effective methods to design furniture is using the fast-growing low carbon materials instead of using wooden materials.
Of course, we also encountered a lot of challenges during the design process! For example: the single physical properties of bamboo making the coloring work very difficult! Because bamboo doesn’t “eat” colors, and those UV lacquers that we used to make carpet floor can’t be applied to furniture; Meanwhile the timing and the ways to get access to raw materials for bamboo furniture are very difficult! Technology of Bamboo processing is also much more complex ...... these difficulties even are not yet completely overcome, but we have succeeded continually!
Since there is a lack of middle and high-end product in Chinese feeding bottle market, this project aimed to develop an outstanding product which is healthy and pleasing based on the mature bottom air intake system and elbow style body. At the beginning of the development process, VIM won the design agent role from 6 famous design companies of both home and abroad.
It was the close cooperation throughout this project among marketing company, product design company and producer that the product development finally achieved success. From the market positioning at the very beginning, to product and package design, as well as market promotion, each of the 3 partners performed its duty and kept communication with others. Therefore, this project can be considered as a good example of a combination between product design and marketing pattern.
Before the product release, we held a user experience research choosing more than 200 midwifes and pediatricians, focusing on the needs of baby’s health, and the product received a lot of good comments. Meanwhile, in several terminal promotions and internet promotion, our product has now become increasingly popular with mothers in trail use stage. With its excellent quality and functions, the product also attracted many dealers.
