Apple is reportedly laying the groundwork for a mobile payments system. According to the Wall Street Journal, it is planning to create such a system that would allow consumers to purchase physical products and services, whereas they currently can only buy digital items. It is said that the new payment system will enable users to buy remarkable products and services through their iTunes accounts.

In the event that the mobile payment service is successfully launched, Apple has the potential to instantly become a major player in the field. With its tremendous iTunes customer base of close to 600 million V most with registered credit cards, the tech giant will without a doubt pose a substantial threat to frontrunners in mobile payments such as Paypal. To gain the top spot in the market, however, Apple would need to come up with innovative features, which the company is strongly expected to deliver.
