In the wake of recent criticism, the actor has decided to step up and defend his new movie.

Leonardo DiCpaprios latest movie, The Wolf of Wall Street, is based on the autobiography by Jordan Belfort. It tells the story of a stock broker, who went from partying hard and living the good life to serving jail time for fraud and money-laundering.

Even though DiCaprio has received rave reviews for his performance, the fact that drugs and hookers are heavily featured in the movie has led to the criticism that the movie glamorizes the lavish lifestyle of the main character.

In defense of the movie, the 39-year-old actor said they are not condoning the lifestyle, but rather heightening peoples awareness of the serious problem of overindulgence. The book was a cautionary tale and if you sit through the end of the film, youll realize what were saying about these people and this world, because its an intoxicating one, DiCaprio added.

Coincidentally, the actors last movie, The Great Gatsby, also happens to be about the vulgarity of excess and the idea that having too much can cause a person to end up with nothing.
