"20萬烏克蘭人在基輔抗議"

20萬名烏克蘭人最近在基輔聚集以抗議烏克蘭總統維克托亞努科維奇壓制傾歐盟的示威活動跟和他通過的新法。

(International) 200,000 Ukrainians Protest in Kiev

A group of 200,000 Ukrainians gathered in Kiev recently to protest suppression of a pro-EU protest movement and new legislation by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

Demonstrators gathered waving the blue and yellow national flag and red and black banners of the war time Ukrainian Insurgent Army, with some even wearing masks to mock the new laws legislation forbidding protestors from covering their faces. Chants of, Glory to Ukraine, echoed through the crowds and Kievs Independence Square and surrounding area were filled.

Vitali Klitschko, one of the opposition leaders, stated, We declare the legislation adopted on Thursday illegal. The new laws are deemed by many to be anti-democratic as they take away almost all forms of protests. Authorities are now allowed to jail protestors who blockade public buildings for up to five years and ban dissemination and the use of slander on the internet.

Opposition leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated, Parliament has lost its legitimacy, which means we should create a peoples council consisting of opposition politicians, as many hope to rally against Yanukovych to regain their rights to protest.
