中國的高度機密超高速導彈測試讓美國軍事專家警告台灣可能會因此「深受影響」。

中國的一台超音速滑翔機可能能夠以極高速運送彈頭，速度快到沒有任何世上現存的防禦系統能抵擋。該滑翔機速度達到8馬赫至12馬赫，測試時的時速達到9656公里到14484公里之間。外界也猜測中國正在開發可以單獨起飛或是被轟炸機使用的超高音速燃燒衝壓發動機。

國際評估及戰略中心（IASC）的軍事分析師Rick Fisher表示：「由於此種新型導彈武器的測試基地可能會位在山西省的太原，台灣的確有可能藉由新長程相列雷達得以監控部分測試。」Fisher也說：「中國以超高音速滑翔機（HGV）為基底的武器會對台灣的安全影響甚鉅。」

Fisher也警告說中國人民解放軍（PLA）持有的超高音速滑翔機武器也可能會對台灣造成間接的威脅，因為台美之間的關係。美國海軍表示了若受到中國攻擊他們會保衛台灣，所以對美國海軍的威脅也會影響到台灣。

Top secret testing of an ultra-high speed missile by China has US military experts warning Taiwan that there could be profound effects as a result.

A hypersonic glide vehicle from China may be able to deploy warheads at speeds too fast for existing defense systems. The vehicle reached speeds of Mach 8 to Mach 12, between 9,656 kph to 14,484 kph during testing. It is also speculated that China is developing a hypersonic scramjet-powered vehicle that could take off independently or be used by bombers.

Rick Fisher, a military analyst for the International Assessment and Strategy Center (IASC), stated, As the likely testing base for such a new missile-launched weapon would have been Taiyuan in Shaanxi Province, it is indeed possible that Taiwan was able to monitor parts of the test via its new long-range phased array radar. Fisher also stated that, A Chinese weapon based on a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV) would have a profound effect on the security of Taiwan.

Fisher also warned that HGV weapons held by the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) could also pose an indirect threat to Taiwan because of the relationship between Taiwan and the US. US naval forces have stated they would defend Taiwan in the event of an attack from China, so a threat to these forces affects Taiwans security as well.
