Monica:

(Culture) South African Government Makes A Song Illegal

In a stunning blow to free speech, a judge in South Africa has ruled that a song called Shoot the Boer cannot be sung by the author, Julius Malema (leader of the governing partys Youth League), nor anyone else publicly. The African National Congress (ANC), which supports Malema and his efforts to bring the continued plight of South Africas black majority to the forefront, are now in a tough spot. Malema is persistent in highlighting the persistent racism, corruption, and inequality between the white and black population, and although his own political party largely brushes off many of his demands, he is still a large voice in an undervalued, yet strengthening, movement.

Dialogue Example:

(Racism) Jerard and Monica are friends. Jerard has just come from an interaction between him and another person that he felt was unfair. Lets listen to their conversation.

Monica: Hey, Jerard! You look really upset. Is anything wrong?

Jerard: You wouldnt believe it. I went to buy a soda at the 7-11 and the clerk followed me the whole time!

Monica: Really? Like he thought you would steal something

Jerard: Yes, exactly. Then, the guy sitting outside on the bench made some comments as I was leaving that I really didnt appreciate.

Monica: Well, what did he say?

Jerard: He asked if I was going to find my homeboys. Then, he called me a name that I really didnt like.

Monica: Ooh, wow. I cant believe how prejudiced people can be! Well, dont worry about him. I know youre a wonderful person, no matter what your skin color is!
