(Politics) Japan, South Korea Defy East China Sea ADIZ
Recent South Korean and Japanese flights through the newly established ADIZ defense zone have spurred international concern over an aerial confrontation. Beijing took no action against the flights, which some say has caused embarrassment on their part.
Although analysts say that China created the ADIZ in order to establish claim over the disputed Diaoyutai islands, many fear that the claim will cause more tension and possibly lead to a confrontation between China and the US (who has claimed it will back Japan in regards to the matter).
According to the Global Times, Beijing needs to reform its information release mechanism to win the psychological battles waged by Washington and Tokyo.
Shen Dingli, a regional security expert and deputy director of the Center for American Studies at Shanghais Fudan University, said China will continue to put pressure on Tokyo until negotiations to reverse the decision to nationalize the islands is achieved. Shen stated, China has no choice but to take counter measures, and, If Japan continues to reject admitting the disputes, its most likely that China will take further measures.
A Chinese aircraft carrier recently passed through the Taiwan Strait en route to the South China Sea, causing further tension and speculation as to what will happen next.
