(Culture) Hundreds of Thousands of People Flock to Comic Exhibition
The 6-day exhibition kicked off to a brilliant start on the 15th, drawing in a record-breaking number of people.
The annual comic exhibition was recently held at Taipei World Trade Center, attracting nearly 100,000 attendees on its first day. Many comic enthusiasts had lined up outside the venue before the event started in order to get their hands on various limited edition collectibles and comic book artists autographs. Some had even been taking turns waiting in line since over a month ago.
This year, almost 70 businesses in the cartoon and comic book industry participated in the event with 459 booths being set up. Series like The HENTAI prince and the stony cat sold 2000 copies in just two hours and the controversial comic Attack on Titan sold hundreds of sets on the first day. It was expected that total sales at the exhibition would reach $250 million.
Michael Huang, CEO of Sharp Point Publishing Group, said the exhibition can help bring together comic fans and heat up the industry. He also estimated that sales generated from the event, mainly through product differentiation and increasing average sales per customer, would account for 3% of their annual sales.
