(Technology) Motion Detection Features Way Of The Future
Motion detection features may be the future of smartphones, games and more as developers look at enhancing their products to incorporate systems that react to users body movements.
Microsoft Kinect uses motion detection features in its games and activities, and Leap Motions newest soon-to-be-released devices also have powerful depth sensor cameras. The Kinect can detect a persons skeleton, face and even expressions, and Leap Motion can detect gestures and finger movements.
Apple is also looking at this technology. 9to5 Mac has reported that Apple is testing out motion control features that will enable people to control their phones using the motion of their heads using the front-facing iPhone or iPad camera. The new feature is not available to the public at this time, but remains in the developmental stages of beta testing, however, it could potentially be useful for people with limited mobility or other disabilities that make touch or voice interfaces difficult to use.
Samsungs Galaxy S4 uses eye scrolling to detect the users eyes when reading in order to move pages up or down as the viewer reads, and videos will pause automatically if the user looks away.
