"澳洲村莊易名為「極速死亡」"

為了提高行車安全意識，某澳洲內陸村莊大費周章地改變了村莊名字。一個月之後，也許不用到一個月，這個位於維多利亞省東方並且只有45名居民的「極速村」將正式成為「極速死亡村」。

(Life) Aussie Town Changes its Name to Speedkills

In a bid to raise awareness about the issue of road safety, a small town in the Australian Outback has taken the extreme step of changing its name. For one month, though possibly not for one month only, Speed, a small town of just 45 residents in the eastern state of Victoria, will officially become Speedkills.

The Victoria Transport Accident Commission was responsible for the idea, but it seems they didnt have too much trouble convincing the tiny population to get on board. The locals are hoping that the campaign will encourage drivers to slow down while passing through countryside areas. Speeds residents are so excited about the project that they made a video to publicize the name-change, and one man, Phil Down, is changing his name to Phil Slow Down.

Everyone involved in the scheme is hoping that their message will be spread around the world, and to that end, theyve set up a Facebook page which has received around 35,000 likes. The organizers dont want this one town to be the end of the story, though. Theyve already found 5 US towns called Speed that they hope will take up the torch and continue to spread the word that speed kills.
