(Technology) Electronic Arts Forecasts Brighter Future

Like the rest of the game industry, Electronic Arts has recently suffered a major blow due to players shift to casual games on mobile devices and technical issues with some of its products, including the latest version of SimCity. The video game maker has also been forced to cut operating costs and lay off employees in light of the tougher market conditions.

Figures for the first quarter of 2013 showed that the companys net income dropped 19% to $323 million, compared to the same period last year. Nonetheless, Electronic Arts is expecting a higher earning of $4 billion in its next financial year, in line with Wall Streets expectations. Their focus on margin expansion is impressive but theyre going to have to continue to deliver on that, said an analyst at brokerage firm Sterne Agee. But so far, so good.

EA interim CEO Larry Probst said the company is preparing a new line-up of games to take advantage of next-generation consoles, mobile and PCs. These include sports game franchises such as Madden and FIFA, simulation game Sims 4 and Plant vs. Zombies 2.
