When Italians, themselves, go on holiday, however, they often visit the region of Puglia, the heel of Italys boot, and they go during the winter. At this time of the year, the towns are less crowded, prices are cheaper, and the food, so they say, tastes better.

Those who travel to Puglia in the summer often do so for its wonderful beaches. In the wintertime, this part of the country is surprisingly cold, and swimming is definitely not an option. To make up for that loss, head inland. Amongst the regions beautiful hills, youll find countless farms, where nuts, olives, and delicious fruit are grown. At most places, youll be able to buy some of the produce and maybe even get a tour.

Another great attraction in Puglia is the fish, and, as anyone who lives in the region will tell you, the catch tastes better when the weather gets colder. Good restaurants arent hard to find anywhere in Italy, and whatever town youre staying in, theres sure to be at least one place serving up delicious seafood dishes.
