North Koreas state-run news agency KCNA has reported that rocket units in the country have been put into combat posture and targeted at US military bases in Guam, Hawaii, and the US mainland. Tensions remain high on the Korean Peninsula following a nuclear test by Pyongyang. That test led to the UN imposing more sanctions on the renegade state, which angered the authorities there.

Since the new sanctions were announced, North Korea has threatened the US with pre-emptive nuclear attacks and strikes on its bases in Japan. Tensions are likely to be raised further by this report, which stated: From this moment, the Supreme Command of the Korean Peoples Army will be putting in combat duty posture No. 1 all field artillery units including long-range artillery units and strategic rocket units that will target all enemy objects in US invasionary bases on its mainland, Hawaii, and Guam.

The US did not immediately respond to the development, but South Korean President Park Geun-hye has said that for the North, the only path to survival lies in stopping provocations and threats, and abandoning its nuclear weaponry and missiles. The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded by saying that the relevant parties should exercise restraint so as to ease the tension.
