(Politics) Obama Inaugurated in Washington
The US President was upbeat about Americas potential.
The inauguration ceremony marking the start of Barack Obamas second term as US president was held on January 21. In his speech, he called on the American people to seize the moment and said that our journey is not complete. Hundreds of thousands of people turned out to see the 51-year-old leader get sworn into office by Chief Justice John Roberts.
Obama gave a carefully worded and rousing speech in which he suggested that the nation has turned a corner and is set for better times. This generation of Americans, he said, has been tested by crises that steeled our resolve and proved our resilience. A decade of war is now ending. An economic recovery has begun. Americas possibilities are limitless.
He mentioned key issues such as gun control, gay rights, and climate change, but his main point was that Americans will have to work together to achieve the best things for the country. In a reference to the growing wealth gap, he said: We, the people, understand that our country cannot succeed when a shrinking few do very well and a growing many barely make it.
