(Local) Company Sends Employees Parents Money

Xiao or filial piety is an important word in Chinese culture. Children are taught at a young age to respect and take care of ones parents. Therefore, it is traditional for Chinese people to give money and gifts to them when they become working adults. But in todays economy, many young people are having a hard time living off their paycheck and saving money to send home.

Last June, one company, which is connected with a consulting firm in Sichuan, decided to lessen their employees burden by sending 1,000 yuan (US$160) every 3 months to their parents in addition to paying their regular salaries. They hope that by doing this, the workers will be able to concentrate on doing their jobs rather than worrying about money.

While parents eagerly wait for this free gift, some workers dread it. Each money packet comes with a report card that informs parents about their childs work performance. If the person didnt follow company rules or did poorly at his job, the company would deduct or not send any money at all and just write a letter explaining why your child couldnt send you money this month.
