(Technology) Smartphone Inserted Inside Magazine

Since most people cant imagine life without their mobile phones, it is only natural that this becomes a target for advertisements V from capturing QR codes to downloading various apps for magazines. CW, a television network, went a step further with the advertisement for their new shows and embedded a smartphone into 1000 Oct. 5 magazine issues of Entertainment Weekly. Turn it on and commercials of the latest shows can be seen, the networks twitter page will then appear with live tweets about upcoming CW events. Tear the page apart and you get a 3G capable Android phone with a 2.3 inch screen, prepaid SIM card and a usable micro USB port albeit no keypad.Its definitely a good marketing stunt that utilizes technology to create a buzz about its product.

Dialogue Example:

(Magazine Advertisements) Stephanie and Louis are college friends. Stephanie is flipping through a magazine and is complaining to Louis about how many advertisements there are. Lets listen to their conversation.

Stephanie: When I buy beauty magazines nowadays, I feel like Im wasting my money. Look at how many pages of advertisements there are in this issue.

Louis: I agree with you. I was looking through a mens health magazine the other day and felt like I was looking at a sales catalog.

Stephanie: At the very least, companies should make an effort to be creative. I heard that one television network in the US placed a phone in their magazine ad. Now, thats something I would want to see.

Louis: So the magazine came with a free phone? I wish I was one of the lucky people who got one.

Stephanie: It was a free phone alright but it had no keypad. You wont be able to text anybody with it.

Louis: With all the money they get from their ads, I think the company should have given away a fully-functional phone that people can use to call and text others.

Stephanie: Dont you think they would go bankrupt if they did that

Louis: You know what they say about business: It takes money to make money.
