"臉書用戶突破十億"

臉書總裁馬克祖克柏週四時開心宣布，社群網站Facebook最近的活躍用戶已超過十億。在他的臉書頁面上，他分享說：「幫助十億人連結感覺很棒、讓我重新審視自己的缺點，也是我人生最驕傲的事。」

這個重要的時刻，來自八年的努力，正好在這個超夯公司的艱苦時刻降臨。儘管網站用戶創新高，該公司前一天的股價以21.83美元作收，與原先的價格38美元相比，下跌了43%。公司所面臨的問題就是無法從提供民眾虛擬線上空間聊天和分享資訊中賺很多錢。這和Google、Apple及Microsoft不同，他們除了提供一般服務外，也兼做軟硬體。

這位28歲總裁對公司未來仍保持樂觀，宣稱：「我們在行動上網將賺得比桌機上網還要多。」既然目前有58%的用戶使用行動裝置瀏覽網頁，臉書已經專注於開發更好的應用程式，讓用戶有更個人化的體驗。臉書首頁上「近況更新區」的最新增加部分，每天就產生超過一百萬美元的收益。

(Technology) Facebook Surpasses One Billion Users

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was pleased to announce that the social network site has currently more than 1 billion active users as of Thursday. On his Facebook page he shares that Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.

This important moment, 8 years in the making, comes at a difficult time for this wildly popular company. Although the use of its website is at an all time high, stocks closed at $21.83 the day before, 43% down from its original price of $38. The problem the company faces is that it is unable to make much money from offering virtual online spaces for people to talk and share information. This is unlike Google, Apple and Microsoft which also offer hardware and software aside from its usual services.

The 28-year-old CEO remains optimistic about the companys future, declaring that on mobile we are going to make a lot more money than on desktop. Since 58% of users are now viewing the website on a mobile device, they have been concentrating on developing better applications that give users a more personalized experience. The latest addition of the News Feed section on the main page of Facebook is currently generating more than US$1 million per day.
