(Politics)Romney Edges Ahead on Super Tuesday

It was a good rather than super day for the former Massachusetts governor. Mitt Romney was the clear winner of the Super Tuesday votes in the US. On March 6, 10 states held primaries or caucuses to decide who would be the Republican Party nominee for this years US presidential election. The former governor of Massachusetts won six states including the coveted prize of Ohio. He also triumphed in Massachusetts, Idaho, Virginia, Vermont, and Alaska.

Despite the victories, the results werent strong enough to help Romney comfortably pull away from his opponents. His closest rival, Rick Santorum, picked up good wins in Tennessee, North Dakota, and Oklahoma. The remaining state, Georgia, was won by Newt Gingrich. The results are further proof that Romney is having trouble winning over the Republican conservative base. Its a weakness that Santorum and Gingrich hope to capitalize on in the coming weeks.

The days biggest prize was definitely Ohio. The state carries 63 delegates, but far more importantly, its seen as an indicator of how the nation will vote. Romney won the state narrowly from Santorum, but he still enjoyed the victory and said to supporters: Tonight weve taken one more step towards restoring the promise of America.
