(Business)What Makes An Entrepreneur
A Georgian winemaker with his twin brother turned an old wine cellar into a destination for tourists. Gela and Gia came into the world together and they are still inseparable, even in their winemaking and tourism business.
They run a wine cellar and a hotel called "The Twins Old Cellar". It is located in the Kakheti region in the eastern part of Georgia in which was the Soviet Union.
They make their wine in clay vessels called "kvevri" in accordance with the traditional Georgian method used by their ancestors. Today, a huge kvevri stands outside the hotel building, drawing customers to the small village of Napareuli.
This village, like the rest of rural Georgia, has struggled with poverty over the 20 years since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The wine industry especially suffered after doors to its main export market V Russia V closed in 2006 due to an embargo from the country. After the twins saw the boom of private businesses in Western Europe, they discovered that the government would give them a good loan with a low interest rate for winemaking equipment, and they developed their hotel and their cellar to the stage where they could sell 100,000 liters of wine per year and have 12 rooms in their hotel. That is truly entrepreneurship.
